“If he leaves me alone…” Aberforth shrugged. ![]() “You heard what Mum said, you should better stay away from him,” Albus replied, equally quiet. It seemed Aberforth really did not care that Derrick was, in fact, three years older and twice as broad as him. Derrick lived three houses down their street and had an excessive ongoing feud with Aberforth since the beginning of the year. A few feet away he noticed Derrick Benson with a group of other children of the village. Albus let his gaze wander around the meadow. “Look, Derrick’s here,” he whispered, so low that Father wouldn’t hear it. “You will stay with us, until we have greeted everybody and don’t you dare pick a fight with anyone,” Mother urged.Īberforth scowled, but nodded, pulled out of her grip and squeezed in between Albus and Father. Percival Dumbledore had grown up there and later inherited the old family home, where he now lived with his wife and children and today, attended the traditional summer fair on the meadow behind the local chapel.Īlbus, holding his little sister’s hand, walked calmly beside his father, while Mother grabbed the collar of Aberforth’s shirt, preventing him from running off. Located on a small hill near England’s east coast, Mould-on-the-Wold had always been a quiet village, mostly occupied by magical families such as the Dumbledores. Dumbledore later speculates that Grindelwald lied to keep Voldemort from getting the Hallow, though Harry thinks that maybe Grindelwald was trying to prevent Voldemort from raiding Dumbledore's tomb. We're using the book's version as canon, and in Rowling's take on the events, Grindelwald doesn't betray Dumbledore or give up any information. Not only does Grindelwald have way more teeth than he's described in the book, but the movie also has him willingly handing over the information to Voldemort. 'You will not win, you cannot win! That wand will never, ever be yours -'įor reference, the Deathly Hallows movie shows this scene very differently. Here were his final words, before Voldemort killed him: Grindelwald lies to Voldemort, claiming he never had the wand in the first place, and then laughs in his face, clearly unconcerned with the Dark Lord's wrath. ![]() In Deathly Hallows, Harry mind-flashes to Voldemort demanding information from a skeletal Grindelwald in prison. Grindelwald died after lying to and laughing in Voldemort's face Beyond whatever went on that got him expelled, Grindelwald also carved the Deathly Hallows symbol in a wall at Durmstrang, and it was still there as of the time Viktor Krum attended school there. I'd say the odds are high there's truth somewhere between Dumbledore's account, and Skeeter's. That may have been Dumbledore's more forgiving assessment of the situation, considering Rita Skeeter's account mentions something to do with twisted experiments. ![]() However, there is a bit more weight to Grindelwald's disgraceful exit from Durmstrang, in the form of a letter Dumbledore wrote to Grindelwald (also included in Rita Skeeter's book), which references a mistake Grindelwald made at Durmstrang, related to using force when it wasn't entirely necessary. Pretty much everything Rita Skeeter writes should be taken with a grain of salt. This piece of information is provided to us by Rita Skeeter, who penned a scathing book about Albus Dumbledore. Grindelwald was expelled from Durmstrang at 16 years of age.
